To mark its 50th anniversary, Fameccanica commissioned a striking mural by visual artist Ray Oranges—a permanent intervention that transforms the company’s headquarters into a beacon of innovation, identity and place.
A global leader in automation and technology for the consumer goods industry, Fameccanica has remained firmly rooted in its local community—where many employees have built their lives and families across generations. This deep connection was a key driver behind the decision to create a public artwork: not only a celebration of technological progress, but also a gesture of gratitude and belonging.
Conceived as a bold yet elegant visual statement, the mural distils Ray Oranges’ signature style—clean architectural forms, dynamic geometries, and vibrant colour fields—into a composition that captures the spirit of constant transformation. The canvas extends beyond the central façade to include the adjoining staircases, allowing the artwork to unfold across multiple surfaces. Through his use of shape and colour, Ray creates a visual dialogue with the architectural features of the building, amplifying their presence while integrating them seamlessly into the mural’s rhythmic flow. A human figure nods to the individuals behind the technology and to the artist himself—a subtle reminder that progress is always a human endeavour. Just below the figure, almost hidden in plain sight, the number 50 is embedded within the composition—a quiet yet meaningful nod to the anniversary, later echoed on t-shirts and tote bags gifted to employees and guests.
As Ray Oranges explains, “Fameccanica’s ethos is rooted in innovation inspired by life, which is why I included a human figure interacting with the artwork. Just like technology and innovation, art is all around us.”
Machas was approached by curator Renato Fontana and Fameccanica to engage Ray Oranges for this site-specific commission. The result is a powerful and poetic work that doesn’t simply adorn the company’s façade—it speaks to its legacy, its people, and its forward-looking vision.
