Visual artist Jonathan Calugi opens Lettera, a new solo exhibition at Il Vicolo Casa Galleria in Genoa, where he reimagines his flowing black lines and bursts of colour through a fresh and unexpected lens.

On display are over 20 original works on paper and canvas, alongside a collection of sculptures that expand Calugi’s minimal, expressive universe. In this body of work, Calugi revisits the idea of the “letter”—not as part of an alphabet, but as a pure form, an emotional sign open to multiple interpretations through shape and colour.

Lettera explores the tension between legibility and expression—where abstract forms suggest rhythm, memory, and emotional charge. Calugi’s gestures don’t spell words: they prompt a direct, instinctive dialogue with the viewer—where form becomes experience and meaning emerges through emotion.

The show runs until 30 June in the newly renovated Il Vicolo Casa gallery (Piazza Pollaiuoli 8, Genoa)—an intimate setting in the heart of a city known for its density and energy. The name itself, ‘Casa’, meaning home, echoes the spirit of Calugi’s practice: rooted in familiarity, warmth and connection. Here, viewers are welcomed into an encounter with his work that feels both personal and generous—a return of sorts, where lines leap, gather and disperse with rhythm and freedom, inviting entry into a world that is immediate, open-ended, and authentic.
