Atelier Stories: Jonathan Calugi for CMP

Jonathan Calugi has collaborated with art supplies brand CMP for a new chapter of Atelier Stories: a series of video interviews dedicated to artists, their stories, use of materials and creative process.

Rooted in over 90 years of colour-making expertise, CMP develops creative tools for artists and makers, from acrylic paints to other art materials designed for experimentation. With Atelier Stories, the brand invites selected artists to create bespoke works using its products, showing how colour, surface and gesture can become part of a distinct visual language.

In Jonathan’s chapter, the video interview follows the artist as he works in his Pistoia studio, building a painting through his continuous line and CMP’s vibrant acrylic colours.

Known for his expressive minimalism, Jonathan Calugi’s work balances intuition and structure, turning simple forms into dynamic compositions, creating images that feel essential yet striking and full of movement, whilst the intensity of the colour enhances the simplicity of his visual language, giving new depth and presence to his compositions.

Through Atelier Stories, the collaboration offers a closer insight into Jonathan’s practice: a search for the essential, where simple lines and colour juxtapositions create a sense of flow and rhythm, opening each sign to multiple interpretations.
