Computer Arts Logo Issue, designed by Jonathan Calugi

Computer Arts Logo Issue, designed by Jonathan Calugi

We just got back from our local newsstand with the latest issue of Computer Art in our bag, and Machas Artist Jonathan Calugi’s artwork on the cover looks absolutely stunning!

Jonathan was contacted to illustrate the September Issue’s main story about great logo creation. As Computer Arts gathered “the leading authorities in logo design to discuss the process behind magnificent marques”, Jonathan had to translate the essence of this subject into an eye-catching image.

The first draft was quite colorful but that wasn’t convincing Jonathan: he knew perfectly well that when commissioned a logo the color scheme is very limited, if not completely restricted to black & white. So he decided to scale back to just two colors, with the elements of his trademark style in charge of creating the meaning of the composition .

“When looking at a logo, the viewer has to connect its different elements and give an interpretation of their meaning. The same goes for the piece I’ve created for Computer Arts: each block it’s a world in miniature which communicates with the adjoining blocks: it’s for the attentive eye to create its own story”.
