Never Forever

As anticipated in January during her London Fashion Week event, Becha has collaborated again with Serbian fashion designer Ana Ljubinkovic for the new issue FAAR Magazine. Their first collaboration, the acclaimed «Silent Spring», showed the strong visions of the two creatives merging together to bring forward a surreal world inhabited by gorgeous models clad in Ana’s designs and peculiar animals.

«Never Forever» is the next chapter of the collaboration between the two artists and although it has evolved into a different direction from «Silent Spring» it retains the strength of its vision unaltered. We caught up with Becha to ask her what was behind the creation of «Never Forever».

The editorial is inspired by Kate Bush’s song «Cloudbusting»”, says Becha. “The Cloud Buster was an actual device designed by Austrian psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich.  Mr Reich claimed that the machine could produce rain by manipulating what he called «orgone energy» present in the atmosphere. That was our starting point to which we added more elements. Kate Bush has also influenced the title of our work as we’ve taken inspiration from her album «Never for Ever»”.

«Never Forever» uses some very strong symbols, a sort of religious meet pagan symbolism as seen through a candy dream lens.
It is a story about good vs. evil. If we want to keep the Cloudbusting metaphor, it’s us who decide whether to create white clouds instead of violent hurricanes: it’s really up to us. However I personally don’t want to impose my vision or make my opinions too obvious. I prefer to ask questions and provide the viewer with an opportunity to think rather than just providing answers. For «Never Forever» I imagined the cheeky girl with long legs ready to grab an arrow and fight or sitting on a cloud with a lizard on her lap: it was so much fun to play will all those symbols! The result is an aesthetic between golden-plated plastic catholic icons and a sugar-sweet heaven.

How did you and Ana work together?
We worked together on the project step-by-step: we first talk about inspirations, about the story, possible scenes and places, the general mood. We wanted to make «Never Forever» different yet very similar to «Silent Spring». I wasn’t at the shooting but Miloš (Nadaždin, photographer) made great job and after I got the images, I had to complete the whole story in less then 10 days. It was crazy hectic but we very are happy with the results!
