“Secrets explores my insecurities, my hidden fears, more in general the dark side”, Leonardo says. “I could have created the dry ice block digitally but I opted for the real thing: I liked that I was being able to touch what I was filming and having a kind of interaction that couldn’t be controlled mathematically. For example,  I used the warmth of my hands and poured ink on the ice to change its shape. I wanted to enhance the reality of the matter, the sensorial feel not just through the choice of material but also through the camera work.”

“I filmed the video in one night and when I woke up in the morning I looked at my hands and I could hardly move them - actually my left hand’s little finger was completely black and it felt like it was burning! I thought it was quite funny that I had this burning sensation because I held such a cold material… the downside is that I ended up at the emergency room and told EVERYONE that my job was to repair fridges”.

Art is apparently another secret.
