Baby Marlen in Wonderland

If there is one thing that we are sure of here at Machas it’s that BECHA has an incredibly versatile talent that is only matched by her capability to be attuned with the message to channel. The lady herself cemented this opinion with her new work for Ukrainian children’s store Baby Marlen: candy cane trees and peach blossoms bushes rise up from a pale rose sea, a punky pink flamingo and a little Bambi inhabit this fantasy world where pretty stylish kids play free.

“It was my first time working with children as subjects”, says Becha, “and it was very interesting and different. I had to think about the right approach and make sure that kids will understand it although images like these are meant to catch eye of adults too.”

One of the girls modelling the clothes had a particularly convincing expression of wonder on her face, as if she really had been transported into a fantasy world full of magic. Becha says this inspired her to create a dream-world for the little girl.

“The main reason why I enjoyed this project so much was because “surreal” was the key word in the brief,” adds Becha. And while surreal landscapes appeal to people of all ages,  Becha wanted the scenery to also appeal to children. This is where the candy cane trees, balloons and bambis come into play. Becha: “The scene is sweet and playful so kids can get familiar with it but also it needed to remain real and recognizable in certain parts so adults, which are the real consumers here, can relate.”
