“Affinity” is unquestionably one of Australian studio Amigo & Amigo’s most iconic artworks. The installation’s interconnected colourful globes and flows of lights are activated by touch - the more the hands on the sensors, the stronger the light flow would spread into the installation.

Machas liaised with We are Placemaking, a London-based event agency, to bring Affinity to England. The artwork was shown at a shopping centre in Southampton for their annual light festival, which resulted in an explosion of colour and light illuminating a part of the mall’s Esplanade, along with other light artworks.

The large-scale Affinity installation was a truly playful interactive multi-sensorial experience, which involved a 3.5 metres tall structure, with 400 metres of LED RGB strip lights, 19 Intel Galileo boards, 114 input sensors and 48 connecting arms.

Machas previously worked with Amigo & Amigo on an ambitious project in Beijing, and we knew that Affinity, inspired by the connectivity of the human brain, would be a perfect match for the festival and a memorable experience.
